Filipino-American Community of Western North Carolina

Filipino-American Community of Western North Carolina n P.O. Box 17161 n Asheville, NC  28816

group of diverse talent eagerly awaiting her creativity and production.  Let’s wish them luck as they start practices at our home base, Stanley Steemer Warehouse. The more the merrier, so if you, or someone you know, wants to share in this experience, come out and join us in wonderful song and dance!

The highlight each year is our Gala Event held each summer. It’s a celebration of everything that it means to be Filipino. It’s a celebration of songs, music, costumes, and dance that makes it a magical event for one night each summer.  Save the date on your calendars for August 7th at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville and celebrate with us!

As the year starts winding down and as we cool down from the heat of summer, we will hold our Annual Labor Day picnic, and as tradition, elections for a new set of officers at Lake Julian in Skyland on September 4th.

As the leaves start to fall, we welcome the autumn air with dances of ghosts and ghouls with the fun of tricks and treats at the Halloween Party. Perfect for our kids, and kids-at-heart, to dress up in their favorite characters and costumes, we’ll celebrate this fun-filled holiday at the Church of Christ in Hendersonville on October 30th this year! Bring your sweet-tooth and a pail for tons of treats and candy and our fun-filled games and tricks!

We end our busy year with the annual Christmas Party at the Church of Christ in Hendersonville on December 4th where we gather together as a community to celebrate with friends and family and reflect on the true meanings of the holidays.

The year is slam packed with activities and gatherings. Mark your calendars and come out and share in the community with friends and family. Get involved with civic opportunities and volunteer in our outreach programs. Come out and show your support to our dance troupe, in promoting our cultural heritage through our dances, our children, and our hearts.  Let’s make this year the best ever! Here’s to our new set of Officers as they lead us into this year, and here’s to our community and our fellow kababayan.

After a rough winter and tons of snow, and as spring is quickly approaching, FAC-WNC has been busy gearing up again for the year events of 2010.  We want to thank the 2009 officers for making last year such a success. As they pass the torch to a new set of leaders in the community, we want to introduce our next set of Officers.

First, a leader behind the scenes for the past few years, and a former First Lady, is Marilou Marucut as our new President.  She has worked diligently as one of our Dance Troupe’s Lead Directors and last years Secretary, she steps into the position as our new leader.

Another former First Lady and former Secretary of the association, now takes on the position of Vice President. She is Vivian Brown!

Our former President resumes his former role as Secretary this year. He’s played an instrumental role as a leader for our Dance Troupe, and the son of two former Presidents, he is our very own Brian Rodriguez.

Our Treasurer this year is our former Auditor, Ladi Armena. He’s played an instrumental role in many behind the scenes activities, always lending a helping hand and his wisdom to lead our association.

The newest officer is someone who has helped tremendously on various activities with gusto and charm, she is Ellen Imperial.

Our Board of Directors have remained the same and have been the benchmark of the association, continuing to help lead this association based on their past experiences and continuing efforts to support our community and its goals.

FAC-WNC wants to do its part in the community and will be participating in a number of outreach programs. A few our members have participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister’s ‘Bowl for Kids’ Sake’ this past January where we helped raise $200 for this charitable cause.  We also have volunteer opportunities at ABCCM Women’s and Children’s Shelter and Loving Foods Resources this year. If you are interested in getting involved with our community, please let us know! Share your hearts and time with us to give back to our neighbors who need our help.

The first event of the year is our Annual Easter Picnic and Egg Hunt set for April 4th at the Buncombe County Sports Rec park in Candler, NC. The traditional Egg Decorating contest and Egg Hunt are things to look forward to, some come out and mingle with new and old members alike!

Our raffle this year will start at the Easter Picnic, so don’t miss out on winning a new Laptop or a Nintendo Wii! Get your tickets folks, they go on sale NOW!

Our next event is the Memorial Day Picnic at one of our favorite venues, Patton Park in Hendersonville, NC. Let’s welcome the summer together with grilled delights and a nice pool to cool down in and relax. Don’t forget your swim gear!

These mark our first two events of the season, so we hope to see our old members alongside new faces who are curious what our community is about. It’s about solidifying a community, friendships, the bonds that hold us together as countrymen, both Filipino and American alike.

While we plan for the events of the year, lets not forget our Dance Troupe. Let’s wish them luck as they prepare for this years 16th Annual Gala! We want to welcome back our original Dance Director, Mary Ann Ar, as she leads this troupe once again into the forefront of Filipino Dance Troupes in

the Carolinas.  She has a wonderful team behind her, and a wonderful
